Cootham Pre-School

Welcome To Cootham Pre-School

P5020492Cootham Pre-School was established over 30 years ago. Tracey Brooks, the current owner, became involved in 1997. "At Cootham Pre-School, we believe that maintaining high standards of care and teaching, in a safe, caring, friendly environment, is paramount for each individual child to develop physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually.

The pre-school is privately owned and managed. It is located in a Village Hall in the Hamlet of Cootham ( near Storrington and Pulborough ) with a secure and enclosed play area. There are seven members of staff and of these, six hold an early years or teaching qualification.

There are currently 47 children on the register, a maximum of 24 attending each session with a 1 to 4 staff to child ratio. Children are accepted from two years of age and are able to stay until the term after their fifth birthday.

In addition to the regular sessions, there is daily lunch club, music lessons, two transition afternoons, yoga as well as the opportunity for all children to learn French with a specialist teacher on Thursdays. During the month of August a Summer Club is available from Tuesday through Thursday when the children can attend a morning or afternoon session or alternatively stay for the day.

"Overall the quality of the provision is outstanding.

The pre-school provides high quality care and learning and skilled and experienced staff successfully promote individual children's development. Children benefit greatly from a highly stimulating learning environment that includes excellent opportunities for outdoor play. A fully planned play programme is presented for children, with additional learning initiatives also being considered. A comprehensive system of observation and assessment is in place and children's progress and achievement is exemplary. Staff maintain close partnerships with other carers, and parents are fully included and engaged with their children's learning. The setting's capacity to improve is excellently maintained by highly consistent self-evaluation systems."

"Cootham is an extremely special environment which is designed around the unique needs of the very young. The head teacher has a deep empathy and affection for her tiny charges, and a real interest in them as individuals who deserve to be nurtured, understood and encouraged - at their own pace. She is a naturally warm person whom the children both adore and respect"

"We are very pleased with Charlie's progress at Cootham and feel that your continued support and nurturing with his behaviour and education will form a solid foundation for his future. Charlie loves coming to school and has really learnt a lot. I'm particularly impressed with his French!!"

Your Child

Your child is very important to us and I understand that you may have many questions to ask about your child settling into pre-school. In order to achieve this, I  offer the following:
  • A personal consultation for new parents one half term after your child enters pre-school at a pre-arranged time.
  • A sign up sheet is available to all parents indicating times when I am free to discuss progress during the course of the morning or afternoon sessions for any child.
  • Parents are free to view their child's Individual Development Plan at any time.
  • A yearly Parents Evening for parents of children who are leaving in the Summer Term together with a written report and progress sheet.
