About

Cootham Pre-School is located in a beautiful 19th Century Chapel in the Hamlet of Cootham. It has a secure and generous enclosed play area and vegetable garden. Children can attend from two years of age until the term after their fifth birthday. Our focus on our care, dedication, education and standards are reflected in our Ofsted classification of Outstanding.

Yoga

As part of the Transition Day the children take part in yoga with Charlotte. Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves.

Spanish at Pequeno Restuarante

Each Thursday morning our school transforms into a Pequeno Restaurante. The children visit to the pequeno restaurant to order their food for snack. They select from eight items on a menu and pay with real euros. Snack is followed by Circle Time when Simon involves the children in Spanish Nursery Rhymes accompanied by his guitar.

Transition day

In order to help to achieve ‘School Ready’ children they take part in activities that will extend their experiences in all areas of learning, concentrating particularly onCommunication Language and Literacy, Physical Development, Science,Mathematical and Problem Solving.

Our Vision

  • To provide a safe, happy environment, that is secure, welcoming and involving.
  • To teach the children the importance of caring and consideration for others.
  • To develop an awareness and respect for themselves, their friends and of other cultures and beliefs and very importantly, to build a positive self-esteem.
  • To enhance the mental, emotional, social and physical development of all children.
  • To provide facilities to enable the children to learn through the freedom of play in individual and group activities with care and supervision.
  • To teach the children life skills in order to prepare and ease their transition into school.
  • To give them the confidence to negotiate with their peers to make their feelings known.
  • To positively support equal opportunities, encouraging the children to learn not only about their peer group, but about their community and the world in which we all live and share.
  • To involve parents, carers and other interested adults at whatever level of commitment is appropriate.
  • Cootham Pre-School is non-denominational but bases it’s values on firm moral principles.
